Custom tile showers, tub-to-shower conversions, and walk-in tubs, built by an owner-led contractor with 40+ years of experience.
Specialty Improvements Unlimited remodels bathrooms in Santa Rosa and across Sonoma County, from full floor-to-ceiling remodels to tub-to-shower conversions, walk-in tubs, and safer bathrooms for aging in place. Eric Wilson, a California-licensed general contractor (Lic. #669482), personally evaluates each project and oversees the remodeling process, coordinating plumbing, electrical, tile, and finish work under one contract.
Some people want a spa-like primary bath. Others just want a shower they can step into without climbing over a tub. Most want more storage and better light. Specialty Improvements Unlimited has been remodeling bathrooms in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County for more than 40 years, and every project starts with a simple question: What isn’t working in this room today?
From there, we coordinate the entire bathroom remodel, including demolition, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile, vanities, fixtures, lighting, and painting. Eric personally evaluates your project, prepares the proposal, and oversees construction to ensure quality workmanship and clear communication throughout the process.
Every bathroom is different, but most of our remodels include some or all of the following:
For people who love a bath but find a standard tub hard to get into, a walk-in tub is a good solution. Installation often involves more than it seems: extra framing, plumbing changes, and sometimes moving a wall to make room.
One of our clients wanted a two-seat walk-in Jacuzzi so she could put her feet up. Eric removed a wall to make it fit, then remodeled the rest of the room around it with a new vanity, toilet, flooring, recessed lighting, and a dimmer. She now calls it her "spa bathroom."

Two bathrooms, one at a time
Patti had both bathrooms remodeled, one after the other, so she always had a working bathroom. The first got a full tile shower with a built-in niche and a shaving step. The second got a two-seat walk-in Jacuzzi. She noted the crew used tarps and plastic walls, so dust was minimal.
Two floor-to-ceiling remodels in Santa Rosa
Paul Wakefield hired SIU a second time to remodel two bathrooms in his Santa Rosa home from floor to ceiling, and praised the communication and cleanliness.
1988 bathrooms updated in Oakmont
Chris Stevenson's Oakmont home still had its original 1988 bathrooms. After SIU remodeled the primary bath, they hired Eric to remodel the hall bath too.
Safety upgrades in a primary bathroom
Jill Schoenfeld White had Eric add a long safety bar, a new adjustable shower head, and a clear glass shower door.
A new bathroom in a Russian River cottage
Sherie Ambrose had a second bathroom added to her small cottage. Eric found and fixed significant plumbing and electrical issues along the way and kept them updated throughout.
Bathroom remodels that move plumbing, add circuits, or change walls usually need a permit, from the City of Santa Rosa inside city limits or from Permit Sonoma in unincorporated areas. When permits are required, we coordinate the permit process and required inspections.
Cost depends on the size of the bathroom, whether fixtures move, and the tile and fixtures you choose.
The best way to get an accurate number is a site visit and a written proposal.
We install fixtures and systems we trust for daily use, including Kohler and Moen tubs, toilets, faucets, and shower valves, Schluter waterproofing and tile systems, and Rinnai tankless water heaters.
We remodel bathrooms in Santa Rosa, Oakmont, Petaluma, Windsor, Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Forestville, Kenwood, Bodega Bay, and the surrounding communities.
A tub-to-shower conversion or simple update can be done fairly quickly. A full remodel with new layout, tile, and permits takes longer. You'll get a timeline with your written proposal.
